Improving Maternal and Child Health – Giving Every Baby a Healthy Start

Improving Maternal and Child Health – Giving Every Baby a Healthy Start

The birth of a child is one of life’s most precious moments, but for many in the Bahamas, the joy of welcoming a new life is overshadowed by the challenges of accessing proper maternity care. Friends of PHA Bahamas is committed to ensuring that mothers and their newborns receive the best possible start.

Why Maternal and Child Health is Critical

A healthy start in life isn’t just about the first few hours after birth. It’s about the entire journey—from prenatal care to safe delivery and early pediatric services. Unfortunately, public hospitals in the Bahamas are often under-resourced, lacking necessary equipment and sufficient staff to handle the unique needs of mothers and babies.

Our mission is to enhance maternity wards, provide essential equipment like incubators, and support training for midwives and nurses. We believe that every Bahamian mother deserves compassionate, quality care, and every newborn deserves a healthy beginning.
